MONDAY, 27th FEBRUARY 2017

On February 27th, 1923, Albert Einstein attended a dinner held in his honour by scientists, politicians and diplomats, in Barcelona.

This year 2017, Gastrocultura Mediterránea in collaboration with the Catalan Association of Food Sciences organises a commemorative dinner, where the 1923 menu will be tasted and reproduced, as faithfully as possible.

This event, which combined science and cuisine, was recorded in the journal of Albert Einstein, who highlighted the courtesy and warmth of his visit to Spain, that did not lack some good humour and, even, a hint of mystery. In the dishes’ names were hidden small enigmas related to scientists, philosophers and scientific theories.

The famous dinner of 1923 was celebrated at Rafael Campalans’ private home, Responsible of the Catalan Pedagogy Ministry, at that time. This commemorative dinner will be held just two blocks away, in Carrer Rosselló 148, where the Semproniana, restaurant is now located.

In 1923, was the mother of Campalans herself who prepared the numerous and delicious dishes that were tasted that night. Today, in 2017, the prestigious chefs Ada Parellada, Sergi de Meià and Pere Planagumà will be in charge of reproducing the menu, staying true to the original recipes, as much as possible. Live music will also recreate the musical atmosphere.

With this first dinner, organised in collaboration with the ACCA, Gastrocultura Mediterránea inaugurates a series of historical gastronomic events, which fully expresses its entrepreneurial spirit of research and dissemination, aimed both at science and gastronomy lovers, as well as the general public.
